Reasons that may motivate people to stop drinking

There are different reasons that may motivate people to stop drinking, think about the reasons that resonate most with you and pledge to follow through this holiday season:

  • I want to keep my high blood sugar (diabetes) under control and live a healthy lifestyle.
  • I want to reduce drinking in order to lower my blood pressure.
  • I want to take care of my liver so that it functions well.
  • I don’t want to put anyone at risk by drinking and driving.
  • I wouldn’t want to fall and hurt myself.
  • I don’t want to feel hung over the next morning and lose time I could be spending with my family.
  • I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of my loved ones and regret it the next morning.

Food for thought: What are your specific reasons to stop drinking? Before you decide to may any drastic changes to your drinking pattern, please consult with your doctor as there may be side effects from sudden changes. Everyone’s situation is different, some individuals can cut back drinking on their own, and some may need the support of family and friends.
