CRYSTAL METH (crystal methamphetamine): white crystallized powder that can be ingested by snorting, smoking, swallowing or injecting it with a needle. It’s a synthetic stimulant that affects the central nervous systems. It is most commonly smoked, and can also be compressed into a pill form. It creates a false sense of happiness, a rush of confidence, hyperactivity, and energy which develops a strong desire for continued use. These effects last between 6 to 8 hours but can last up to 24 hours. It’s an illegal drug and within the same class of drugs as cocaine.

Short Term Effects Include*:

  • Delusions of power

Long Term Effects Include*:

  • Destruction of tissues in nose if snorted
  • Psychosis
  • Severe Tooth Decay
  • Damage to the brain similar to Alzheimer’s
  • Strong psychological dependence

    • Causes a severe crash after the effects wear off.
    • Meth users who inject, are at risk for acquiring HIV/AIDS.
